I'm starting a virtual assistant business and should know the legal aspects of starting a business back home?
Chicago, Illinois … Do I need a business license, insurance, can I register my company name? Do I need an EIN … all necessary or can I build my site and I get to work? What with the IRS? I need help on one of these issues and all that may be missing … It would just be my job … none of the employees …
Ok, if only the employees, then it is a sole proprietorship. From the perspective of the IRS, you need not apply for an EIN, you can simply use your social security number. However, you may have to obtain an EIN as your services may require sales tax to be collected (I'm not familiar with tax laws on sales that … See it). Check with your municipality to see if you need a business license using this type of business at home.
